Blizzard has temporarily prevented Hearthstone Standard and Class packs from being opened while they investigate a "potential issue" with the packs. The nature of the issue has not been determined, but looking at social media, it seems very likely that a new and supposedly ultra-rare signature card released today is the root of the problem.

It is not the cards themselves that are the problem, but the fact that they are appearing more often than they should. Signature cards are available in standard packs, class packs, and "March of the Lich King" (open in new tab) card packs. According to Hearthstone's Top Deck (opens in new tab), an average of one signature card will appear for every 181 packs opened.

Signature cards are monochromatic cards with fancy themes. (By that I mean they are themed to each expansion, which in this case is an icy hue. That doesn't stop the community from complaining that they look more boring than regular Legendary, but I digress.) Anyway, was this player luckier than God or ...... :

I am not a Hearthstone player, but I think this is wrong. It is incredibly rare to get one of these cards, and it is unheard of to draw two cards from the same pack. Drawing two cards from the same pack is unheard of.

Shortly after the new cards were released, players began to notice that they could no longer open standard or class packs (opens in new tab), leading to many complaints on the Hearthstone forums and subreddits. Initially it was speculated that a bug was preventing packs from being opened, but Blizzard eventually confirmed that they were intentionally preventing packs from being opened: "While we are investigating a potential issue with Standard and Class packs, we are temporarily preventing packs from being opened. We are temporarily preventing them from being opened," Blizzard posted in the "Known Issues (open in new tab)" forum.

In a statement sent to PC Gamer, Blizzard said there is currently no estimate of when Standard and Class Card packs will be re-enabled: "We do not yet have a timeline for a fix, but our team is actively working on this issue. We are working on it and promise to provide a solution as soon as possible."
