Truckload of limited edition handheld video game consoles stolen.

A truckload of Evercade EXP (open in new tab) retro handheld gaming consoles were stolen earlier this week (open in new tab). The game consoles were all variants of the Evercade EXP Limited Edition in transit and were intended for non-EU customers in the UK, US, and other world regions. In total, $600,000 worth of gaming consoles were stolen.

Andrew Byatt, CEO of Blaze Entertainment, the developer of Evercade EXP, said the theft only affects customers who ordered Evercade EXP Limited Edition. Orders for the regular White Edition will not be affected and will be available beginning December 15.

As for what will happen to those who ordered the stolen console, Byatt said plans are already underway.

"Our customers are our number one concern, and Blaze will begin immediately to re-create the affected inventory and, with Funstock's support, ship as quickly as possible to fulfill all orders and provide updates to all affected customers." Byatt said.

Incidentally, the Evercade EXP is a pocketable retro gaming console with a 4.3" 800 x 480 pixel IPS screen, 720p Mini-HDMI output, Wi-Fi, 4-5 hours of battery life, and USB-C charging. Prices start at $150 (£130) for the regular version, and the Limited Edition, which is not currently available, costs about $200.

The console comes with 18 built-in games from game publisher Capcom, including "Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting," "Mega Man X," "1942," and "Strider."

The Evercade EXP includes the IREM Arcade 1 cartridge collection. This cartridge coincidentally contains the author's favorite side-scrolling shooter, "R-Type."

Byatt also noted that Funstock (opens in new tab) was and is the only online retailer of the Limited Edition.

To be doubly clear, the Limited Edition is no longer for sale.
