Activision "nerfs" "Call of Duty" chart-topping skins to make them more visible.

Well, it all happened so fast. Less than two weeks after the all-black premium skin took Call of Duty by storm (opens in new tab) and even made it to Steam's top 20 bestsellers, Infinity Ward released a mid-season update blog post for Warzone 2 (opens in new opens in tab), unveiling a highly visible version of the same skin.

An early version of LA Thieves' Call of Duty League skin was an all-black ensemble with a cherry red Superman-style logo on the chest. The skin was quickly compared to Roze (open in new tab), the infamous Warzone 1 skin with a similar color scheme; Roze was a tactical shooter that had players playing ninja-like hide-and-seek.

I and other observers initially thought that Warzone 2's updated graphics, lighting, and map (a sunlit city in the desert) would eliminate the same camouflage advantage, but a recent Highlight Reel (in a new tab Open) episode, you should see a shot of the LA Thieves skin in action.

The CoD blog's patch notes include an updated and better looking Thieves home jersey. Various details of the outfit, including the gloves, goggle frames, and tactical suspenders, will be the same bright red as the logo.

CoD outlet CharlieIntel (opens in new tab) tweeted about the possibility of refunding the skins, and in the comments section, he asked if it was possible or not, in what time frame, and whether players were "cheated" by Activision, Conflicting opinions abound, such as whether it is unsportsmanlike to try to buy the camouflage advantage in the first place. Basically, it's the usual kind of debate.

Honestly? I kind of like the new version. The color scheme, especially the pinkish-red highlights, reminds me of the colossus armor in the original Mass Effect (opens in new tab). But if I wanted to, I could get some cute red suspenders like the hilarious Saint Nick. It is the season, after all.
