Sales of "Tekken 7" exceed 10 million units.

As game director Katsuhiro Harada announced in a tweet (opens in new tab), "Tekken 7," the fighting game that combines anime and animal abuse, has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. This brings the overall sales of the "Tekken" series to over 54 million units.

For comparison, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is by far the best-selling fighting game of all time, with Nintendo (open in new tab) selling 29.53 million units. However, Tekken 7 fared much better than its direct competitor, with Capcom (open in new tab) putting Street Fighter 5 sales at just 6.8 million units.

Harada announced the news with art depicting the game's cast in formal attire. Yoshimitsu has modern alien-like armor and tentacles on his head, Paul is scarfing down pizza, and Anna Williams is bringing a rocket launcher, perhaps to deal with her sister Nina. It's a lot of fun.

Tekken 8 was recently teased in a short trailer released at the Game Awards, revealing the return of fan favorite Jun Kazama as a playable character. Frankly, it's as shocking as the return of a character who has been absent from the series (aside from cameos and spin-offs) since Tekken 2, a real 27-year absence.

Tekken 8 will be available on Steam and, according to Namco Bandai (opens in new tab), will feature a new heat system that "triggers aggressive attacks with special moves to enhance each character's abilities."
