General
The dark Soviet FPS has a lovely model train.

Despite its incredibly grim atmosphere and ultra-violence, the throwback FPS Hrot remains one of the most entertaining games I've ever played. You can play the piano, read Lenin, kiss the portrait of Czechoslovakian president Gustav Husak (opens in new tab) (who is also the raspo of the second episode), and play a Game & Watch clone based on the Soviet cartoon "Noo, Pogodi" in the game! (Open in new tab)

Its bawdy sense of humor is alive and well in the first preview of Hrot's third and final act, "Gastrocamera." After releasing Episode 2: The Degustation (opens in new tab) this summer, sole developer Spytihněv has been hard at work on the game's conclusion, dropping a sort of demo of it on November 27: E3M3, Roztyly (opens in new tab).

Roztyly is a tightly knit level that moves back and forth through a fairly restricted horizontal space, rising from a dank sewer through an apartment complex, exiting an industrial area, and descending again to exit the level. So far, Episode 3 has yet to introduce any new weapons or enemies, but Roztyly's outdoor vertical feel is a nice change of pace compared to previous maps.

I'm also a big fan of the cute model train set hidden in one of the apartments. I love little interactive gags like this one, where intense gunfights take place in a beige and brown fever dream.

I am interested in the overall direction Spytihněv takes in episode 3. I'm a big fan of the change of setting in The Degustation, eschewing the urban setting of Episode 1 in favor of more rustic, almost pagan locales like a gothic castle and a witch's farm (E2M7: Granny's Valley). putting Hrot on my wish list? Steam Early Access to check it out (opens in a new tab).
