Overwatch 2" does not remove tracers even if there is a damage bug.

Tracer Maine players can breathe a sigh of relief. Despite the recent discovery of a bug in the damaged hero of Overwatch 2, Blizzard has announced that she will not be temporarily banned.

Perhaps this is because without the bug, Tracer would be significantly outnumbered. The problem is that at the moment, tracers have zero fall damage below 20 meters. That's a pretty big range to input maximum damage. Apparently, professional players were aware of this bug shortly after the launch of Overwatch 2, but it only recently came to light among the wider player base.

Game director Aaron Keller confirmed in a Reddit response (opens in new tab) that the bug "seems to have been in the game for the last few builds. However, it appears to provide a much-needed buff to tracer kits. Says Keller, "The tracer's sudden damage drop is definitely a bug, but the overall power level is fine." We do not intend to disable Tracer and will consider making additional changes to her kit to compensate once the bug is fixed."

This differs from the fate suffered by the same damaged heroes Mei, Torbjorn, and Bastion (open in new tab). Bastion, in particular, took a long time to recover. Shortly after, Mei was frozen (open in new tab) for almost three weeks, and his return (open in new tab) was delayed by a "serious issue (open in new tab)" that postponed his mid-season patch by two days.

Tracer is located around the A or B tier on most lists, and the community seems to be quite divided on whether she is actually a problem right now. However, Blizzard seems convinced that giving Tracer the correct damage reduction rate will spiral her down the list of viable heroes. So for now, consider this whole thing a bug-driven game-balancing adjustment.
