Team Ninja bosses approve "Ninja Gaiden" and "Dead or Alive" reboots in slide presentation

Two of Team Ninja's classic franchises may be getting a new lease of life, according to translated developer talks.

Reboots of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive are in the works, as confirmed by Team Ninja's president during a panel at this weekend's G-Star conference in Korea, VGC (opens in new tab) (via Ruliweb (opens in new tab ))), Fumihiko Yasuda did not discuss the details of either revival, but basically confirmed that it will happen.

The last slide of Yasuda's presentation at the event includes screenshots featuring Ryu and Kasumi respectively. In Japanese, it reads: "The future of Team Ninja - a reboot of the popular series." The developer could say no more, but said he hopes more news will be shared "as soon as possible."

Team Ninja is currently developing two games, so it is possible that we will not hear anything for some time. Oolong Fallen Dynasty (open in new tab) is scheduled for release in 2023, and Rise of the Ronin (open in new tab), another action game, is scheduled for 2024. It's been a long time since a Dead or Alive game, since 2019's Dead or Alive 6, and even longer since a new Ninja Gaiden game. Last year, the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection was released, but it was a bare bones PC port (opens in new tab).

Yasuda previously told VGC (opens in new tab) that he wanted to work on a new Ninja Gaiden, but "all the pieces need to fit, and it needs to be the right team... Either a young in-house team or another company that really needs to fit into the Ninja Ryukenden pedigree. With this reboot news, rumors began circulating that Platinum, best known for "Nier" and "Babylon's Fall," would be at the helm of development, but take that with a grain of salt.

Tomonobu Itagaki, creator of both franchises, left Team Ninja in 2008. He started an entirely new company, Apex Game Studios, last year and is currently knee-deep in NFT's bullshit (opens in new tab) billed as a "3A" fantasy MMO experience (opens in new tab).
