Cyberpunk 2077" gets into white-collar crime, stock market and news practical mod

Cyberpunk 2077 (opens in new tab) is an impressive achievement, despite its flaws. Night City is a shimmering nest of skyscrapers rising above a wide sea of social corruption. But there is always something missing: why not monetize the corruption?

Thanks to new mods by keanuWheeze and scornthegreat (and uploaded by NexusGuy999, just all around winner names), you can! Stock Market and News System ( opens in new tab) finally extends the dead hand of financial capital to the everyday life of cyberpunk; as you can guess from the mod's name, this mod adds a "fully usable" stock market system and news service.

In other words, you can monitor and invest in 33 stock tickers such as Arasaka, Militech, Lazarus, etc., functioning much like the stock market in "GTA 5" (open in new tab). Massacring a company's goons will cause its stock price to plummet (and give you a chance to buy at a discount), but if you do the same to the company's competitors, the stock price will skyrocket.

Meanwhile, the news service comes with 66 news updates that are triggered based on the completion of missions or certain actions of players. If you commit a crime serious enough to appear in the news frame, your name will finally be lit up. You may even receive notifications on your (in-game) cell phone about your heinous acts. Convenient!

This mod is an impressive effort and an interesting wrinkle to put on top of the already rich world of cyberpunk; I've always enjoyed the pleasure of insider trading, buying up large amounts of a company's stock just before going to assassinate a rival CEO in GTA 5. The added thrill of sociopathic white-collar to cyberpunk is just heavenly.
