Darktide's 1.0.7 Patch Improves Crashes, Can Fix Ugly Faces

Fatshark's co-op ogling party simulator "Warhammer 40,000: Darktide" has been in preorder beta for less than a week, and in that time players have pointed out a number of problems. Chief among them is crashing. I have been fortunate that Darktide has only crashed twice, but many other players feel that Darktide is not stable enough.

The patch notes for version 1.0.7 (open in new tab) include matchmaking crashes, cutscene ortab crashes, fallout-of-bounds crashes, crashes due to starting missions with certain specialties equipped, crashes due to certain weapon characteristics The six types of crashes have been identified: crashes caused by the beast of Nurgle, crashes caused by the beast of Nurgle, and multiple crashes caused by the beast of Nurgle. As if we didn't already have enough reasons to hate the beast of Nurgle.

Fatshark states that while many of the causes of crashes have been addressed, "there is one large category of crashes that shows up as "GPU hangs" that will probably still show its ugly face from time to time. Nevertheless, thanks to the many players who have provided the data necessary to address these issues, we are on a good track to providing a stable game upon release. Together, we are doing our part to contribute to the graphics card empire.

The most significant of the new features added in this update is Oska Krall the Barber-Chirurgeon. This bloody Mourningstar crew member can be found in the hub, offering the chance to go back to character customization and tweak his face, hair, scars, and tattoos. If you're starting to regret your droopy mustache or want to become a full-fledged Ogrin-Orson Welles (opens in new tab), you can finally get rid of it; Krall says it will cost you, but now you can change your appearance for free.

The update also added a large block in the upper left corner of the screen that says "Pre-Order Beta Test November 17-29, 2022." Presumably to help the many players who reserved Darktide to play the beta and were confused by the fact that it was a beta. The Emperor protects us all.

As for balance changes, Psyker continues to be reworked due to the unpopular nerf from the initial beta. The latest change removes the peril cost of pushing with a force sword. Fatshark says, "This should help balance out the ability to ignore stagger reduction."

Several weapons have been improved, making the infantry autogun, shredder autopistol, and ogrin bully cudgel more valuable options. The attack attributes of shooting minions have been adjusted, and the pace of spawning has been adjusted; according to Fatshark, "Locking down an army of chaos with melee attacks should be a bit smoother." On the other hand, more insane pacing spikes can be suppressed."

Finally, being rescued or revived is now shown in third-person view, fixing a little sad bug I've never seen before that was causing "various problems with the third-person character's head twisting and turning 180 degrees when looking straight down."
