General
The official remake of the Xbox 360 controller is now available.

Gaming peripheral manufacturer Hyperkin (opens in new tab) will release an official remake of Microsoft's Xbox 360 controller, which Hyperkin will market as the "Hyperkin Xenon" after the Xbox 360's codename. The company plans to reintroduce it to the market. The updated controller is intended to remain faithful to the original design, but will add some modern features.

The Hyperkin Xenon will have modernized menu, view, and share buttons, and will add a 3.5mm headphone jack alongside a USB-C cable. It will be available in Xbox white from the 360 era, as well as black, pink, and red.

Hyperkin is a name that retro gaming enthusiasts may have heard before. Or perhaps you have heard of Hyperkin because you know that they have resurrected the long-lost "Duke," a giant controller for the original Xbox. You know, the one that's so big it's useless (opens in new tab). [PC Gamer senior editor Wes Fenlon (opens in new tab) said, "Some people are young enough to tell their friends that this is the 'first' Xbox controller. I guess I'm now old enough to be considered retro by the gaming generation that intentionally skipped out on owning a console; at 17 years old, the Xbox 360 controller still isn't old: ...... but compared to hardware released this year, it is as old as the Sinclair ZX80 or the Atari 800 when the Nintendo 64 was released. Or as old as the Sega Mega Drive when the Xbox 360 was released.

I admit that Hyperkin's Xenon design is impressive, but many people will be excited to be able to buy a brand new controller in the style of their choice. There's even marketing! Package

But I have to ask ... What's the point of remaking this' best PC controller (opens in new tab) is an evolution of the 360 controller design. And you can buy them anywhere; 17 years later, you can still find them in thrift stores and charity stores, and they are scattered all over online forums like craigslist. At any game market, you can find a thousand new copies for $15 to $20. If it stops working, you can still get a new one for up to $5. Sure, new buttons are cool, but you don't need them unless you're using a current game console.

In any case, if that remake of "Duke" was for someone, this remake is for someone a lot more. After all, you can actually turn your hand to it.
