Ditch 1080p already. Black Friday has a high-resolution 1440p gaming monitor.

Set your credit card to stun, ignore your next heating bill, and get sick of your old, clunky 1080p monitor. For only $200, you can upgrade to buttery smooth 1440p gaming with the LG UltraGear 32GN600-B, long live the 32-inch.

Inevitably, at this low price point, it's a VA panel, not IPS. But it's a real 1440p-deal, running at a full 165Hz refresh. And it's from LG, one of the best brands in the display business, not some weird company you find on Alibaba.

The LG UltraGear 32GN600-B is also HDR capable and claims 1ms responsiveness. However, this is 1ms MPRT, not gray-to-gray response. This monitor will not be as fast as the best 1ms IPS monitors. However, for a comprehensive gaming package at this price, it is a very good value.

If you insist on an IPS panel, buy the HP X32. This is another high refresh 32" that runs at 165 Hz, but is upgraded to IPS over the slightly less expensive LG VA panel.

HP claims not only punchy 400 nits, but also excellent 1ms response time. Connectivity includes both HDMI and DisplayPort; HP does not mention HDR support. However, few purported HDR monitors actually offer a true HDR experience. At this price, one should not have to worry about 1080p.

What if ultra-wide-angle 1440p gaming is your thing? But you may not be as worried as you should be: for just under $350, the Acer Nitro XZ342CK offers an ultra-powerful 34-inch ultrawide experience at 1440p and 144Hz.

An ultrawide monitor like this is definitely a luxury item. Once experienced, however, it is hard to go back to a regular 16:9 aspect panel. Sure, it's a significant increase in investment. But if you spend a couple of years enjoying the game a great deal, it should be worth it.
