Warhammer 40,000: Darktide adds craft upgrades and great new cosmetics

The pre-order beta for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide (opens in new tab) is in full swing with a November 30 release date, and developer Fatshark is nearing a major launch with new features and stability improvements. Today's update 1.0.8 brings a number of balance and stability fixes and adds a new cosmetic to Armory Exchange.

The update also introduces the first elements of the crafting system. Players will now be able to find Plasteel and Diamantine during missions, which can be used to upgrade their favorite weapons by one level and add random perks and blessings. The upgrades will be handled by Tech Priest Hadron Omega 7-7-7 in the hub area.

Another major change relates to quality of life, with improved end-of-round cards that make it easier to see what you have unlocked in the overall progression system. Specifically, weapons and techniques that have been leveled up at the end of a mission are now displayed. In other words, there are no more space gothic bargain sales, vintage clothing models, or grimdark tat for sale in Sire Melk's Requisitorium.

Darktide's preorder beta is slowly rolling out features for the full release, with a patch earlier this week introducing character appearance changes and crash fixes. Fatshark also provided an update on the game's stability in a new patch note: "We also stated in a previous update that we were not satisfied with the game's stability and that there remains work to be done. Nevertheless, we have made progress in this area since the last patch and the patch delivered today. We hope this translates into a more stable experience. There are still some nagging issues that remain and we will continue to work to make this a stable release.

The 1.0.8 patch also includes these great patch notes: "We have added more grunt variations when pushing multiple enemies. We know you love a good grunt."

The full note can be read on Darktide's Steam page. (opens in new tab) If you have questions about the game, you can read the complete Darktide guide at pcgamer.com/warhammer-40-000-darktide (opens in new tab).
