BBC's New Radio Drama "Splinter Cell," Soap Opera Star and "Comedy"

BBC Radio 4, which British readers may remember from their childhood car rides and American readers may think of as a beautiful, exotic mystery, has embarked on a video game adaptation. Specifically, it's a Splinter Cell drama (opens in new tab): an eight-part series that tells the story of "when an assassin from Fisher's past is brought back from the dead for a killing mission."

So far, the only names mentioned are Sam himself and his daughter Sarah, who "teams up with her father on his latest top-secret mission. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the more memorable characters from Splinter Cell make an appearance, but that's mostly Lambert, the guy who yelled "Damn Fisher, I'm pulling you out" every ten minutes.

All I associate with the show are sedate academic discussions (opens in new tab) and panel shows starring David Mitchell. Anthony is most famous for his appearance in the BBC Radio 4 soap opera The Archers, which has been on the air since 1951, and you can guess the overall mood from its jaunty, old-fashioned theme song (opens in new tab).

To be fair, "The Archers" is known for tackling some heavy themes, but I'm still hoping that Anthony will bring his enhanced interrogation expertise back to the soap opera. Give it a little boost.

The series is scheduled to begin airing on December 2 and is "recorded in 3D binaural audio" for an immersive experience. Each episode is 30 minutes long and promises "all of the game's famous action, tension, and excitement" as well as "a lot of comedy" (a surprising move for a show based on "Splinter Cell") and a lot of drama.

After a long hiatus since 2013's "Splinter Cell Blacklist" (open in new tab), Ubisoft's trademark stealth series has begun to breathe again in recent years. In addition to offering wireless play, Ubisoft is remaking the original "Splinter Cell" (opens in new tab) and recently released its concept art (opens in new tab). Honestly, all I really want to know is if Michael Ironside (or a convincing lookalike) will be back as Sam.
