The Sims 4 Update Removes "Completely Unacceptable Content" from Gallery

Update: Sadly, the "unacceptable content" to which this update refers is likely to be the racist and anti-Semitic posts recently uploaded to the gallery; as SimsCommunity reports (opens in new tab), "The Sims 4 has seen a spike in racist content since it went free-to-play, and this update to the profanity filter is likely intended to address that."

Original post EA Likes Profanity Like Coffee. No wonder the recent update to "The Sims 4" brushes against the game's gallery, removing "completely unacceptable content" and adding an update to the game's profanity filter to prevent future uploads of unhealthy content.

"We are aware of and have confirmed some instances of completely unacceptable content uploaded to the Sims 4 gallery," reads an update on EA's official Sims 4 blog (opens in new tab), and the game's team "has decided that to ensure that this does not happen again in the future, we will We have reviewed the profanity filter and made some important updates."

Unkindly, the post does not actually go into detail about what this unacceptable content epidemic was about before calling on players to be careful to avoid more such content in the future. Maybe someone was uploading memories of a bug that made sims want to date their families (opens in new tab), or maybe someone got too excited about werewolf WooHooing (opens in new tab). The possibilities are endless.

Certainly, we can make some pretty good guesses as to what people were uploading, but it would be helpful to have a little more concrete evidence than a general "beware." I think it's always good to be on the lookout in the gallery.

This was a big year for The Sims, not only did we get to relive our clumsiest, bratty days with the "High School" expansion pack (opens in new tab) in July, but in October EA announced "The Sims 5" (opens in new tab). At this point, it is codenamed "Project Rene," and we don't know much more about it than brief snippets of gameplay. However, it is in the very early stages of development, so don't feel too bad if you've recently splurged on the Sims 4 DLC. It will likely be the current version for some time to come.
