Netflix skin and integration mods coming next month in next-gen update for The Witcher 3
[CD Projekt RED has announced that the much-anticipated next-gen update will be released on December 14 (opens in new tab).

The post accompanying the release date announcement promises a number of "visual, performance, and technical enhancements," but does not elaborate on what that actually means. However, ray tracing is included, and integration of "various mods" into the basic Witcher 3 experience is also promised. Again, CD Projekt does not specify which mods they are referring to, so we have to assume that the announcement refers to Geralt VGX Snowboarder (opens in new tab).

Not only that, but there will also be a "DLC set inspired by Netflix's 'The Witcher' series," which will feature new weapons, armor, and "different looks" for some characters. So it looks like there will be additional options to bring the game's characters closer to Netflix characters. So what will CD Projekt do? Cavil Gellert or Hemsworth Gellert?" Choose wisely.

The Witcher 3 update for next-gen consoles has been a long and winding road since it was originally announced for 2020 (open in new tab). It was postponed so many times that CD Projekt had to insist last April that it was not actually in "development hell" after being delayed "until further notice."

But happily, it turns out that the studio was telling the truth, and we will finally see Geralt in an exhaustingly high-resolution bathtub this December. It will be free to us PC players who already have the game, and we can download it just like any other patch.

If you're one of the few who haven't picked up The Witcher 3 in the Steam sale, there will also be a new "full version" of the game available, which will include all the content released so far and the gorgeous additions that will be added in the next-generation console update.
