General
I am apprehensive because no one has yet told me about Geralt's voice actor being in the "Witcher" remake.

Despite the unwarranted hostility from some of the PCG staff, I maintain that the original "The Witcher" was indeed an excellent game (opens in new tab). But if it's going to be remade anyway (opens in new tab), it would be a good idea to cut out the rough edges, including its infamous voice acting.

However, in a recent chat with Eurogamer (opens in new tab), Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt in all three Witcher films, said that neither CD Projekt nor Fool's Theory (the studio behind the remake) re-recorded the dialogue of the first film for the remake He said he has not been contacted about this. I know as much as you do about this at this point," Cockle said, "but I don't know if they are going to bring me back to re-record the dialogue or if they are going to use the dialogue from 'Witcher 1' as is. I don't know."

As the original report correctly points out, much has changed since the first "Witcher" was released in 2007. The Witcher 2 not only replaced several actors from the first game, but Cockle himself has come a long way from his first few steps in Geralt's shoes. In addition, CD Projekt has improved the way it records voice actors since the first film: the studio has used a professional director for voice acting since The Witcher 2, and Cockle says that "the influence of the director on the quality of the recording cannot be overstated"

.

So, while I agree that "The Witcher 1" is a very fine video game, I admit that the acting, at this point, has the feel of a B-movie rendition of a prestige TV series. The reason Cockle's phone hasn't rang yet is probably because the development of the remake is still in its early stages. It would be utterly bizarre if the polished, shiny UE5 model of the new game still used the same recording as the original game.

And let's not even consider the idea of Cockle being replaced: people were outraged enough when Netflix traded Henry Cavill's Geralt (open in new tab) for Liam Hemsworth, but if CD Projekt tried to trade Doug Cockle Can you imagine how angry they would be if CD Projekt tried to trade Doug Cockle?
