Phil Spencer is "excited" about the "Starcraft" continuation.

Phil Spencer has not been shy about the possibility of reviving Activision Blizzard's old game library if the acquisition goes through. One of them could possibly be the beloved RTS "StarCraft," and Spencer seems quite excited about it.

The Xbox boss spoke with Wired about the 25th anniversary of Age of Empire and the series' foray into consoles When asked about reviving the Activision-Blizzard RTS series, Spencer indicated that he would be interested in doing so. He acknowledged how much the game meant to people and what it brought to the genre, calling it "a defining moment in gaming."

"When I think about the legacy of not just StarCraft, but WarCraft, and especially Blizzard's RTS games," he said. 'That said, StarCraft was the pioneer of RTS games. But StarCraft was a defining moment in gaming, right?"

Spencer made it clear that he couldn't really put a definitive on anything yet, but he is "excited to get to sit down with the team and Activision and Blizzard and King to talk about the back catalog and the opportunities we might have."

He stated.

He continued: "It's not something we can actively work on right now. But the idea of being able to think about what could happen with these franchises is pretty exciting to me as someone who has played many hours of these games."

So it looks like we can officially add "StarCraft" to the list of "games Phil Spencer wants to bring back". While Spencer's mouth would lead you to believe that this is a long-dormant franchise, "Starcraft II" was released in a trilogy between 2010 and 2015 and still supports the esports scene, albeit not as much as it once did; in 2017 also saw the release of "Starcraft Remastered," and while Blizzard has never spoken specifically about the future of the series, it has long seemed inevitable that a "Starcraft 3" would be released at some point.

It was only natural that such speculation has been rife ever since Microsoft announced its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Earlier this year, Spencer expressed interest in other Activision Blizzard games and said he wanted to bring back some of his childhood favorites. He specifically mentioned King's Quest, Guitar Hero, and Hexen. While it's nice to see Spencer talking about games other than Call of Duty, it's not like he hasn't argued with PlayStation's Jim Ryan about this.
