The determination of a dwarf who spent 5 hours soloing a WoW raid boss that was supposed to be unsoloable.

A very patient World of Warcraft player successfully soloed a raid boss on the current tier during the Dragonflight pre-patch (opens in new tab) Vennbrew, a monk at Brewmaster, managed to defeat the final boss of the Fated Sepulcher of the First Ones raid and took over 5 hours to defeat Rygelon, the final boss of the raid.

This "world's first pre-patch solo defeat" took place this past weekend and was made possible in part by the introduction of the Dragonflight class talent, which now overlaps with the existing Shadowland power. Some of the new class talents are themselves versions of covenant abilities or legendary powers, and some classes benefit from having combinations that were not supposed to be used together and become significantly overpowered in the final weeks of the expansion.

It took Vennbrew about 90 attempts to get it right and just over 5 hours for the actual kill. This is not 5 hours worth of attempts, but the time it took for the actual encounter. Basically, once the mechanics of enraging the boss and wiping out the raid occurred, Vennbrew had to auto-attack for the rest of the fight.

"Once I knew it was possible, I had to do it," Vennbrew told Raider.io (open in new tab). "I've been watching guys like Rextroy (opens in new tab) for a long time, and I've always been interested in challenging the boss to solo. After three months of thinking about how to get this boss to solo, the excitement of actually doing it kept me going."

It's not uncommon to go back and solo a raid boss if you're after a particular mount or want to add to your transmog collection, but raids, thanks to the power scaling mechanics of legacy content, are generally not until one or two expansions ago. They are never soloed. Since raid bosses are meant to be defeated by at least 10 players, it would be a real feat to see Rigellon legitimately defeated while the raid is still part of the current tier.

All I can say is that if you have imminent plans to solo a raid boss, you better get it done before Dragonflight launches on November 28 and the additional power is gone for good.
