General
Liam Hemsworth was almost cast as The Witcher in 2018.

We are all saddened that Henry Cavill will no longer be Geralt (opens in new tab). And I think many of us also have our doubts about whether Liam Hemsworth, his replacement in Netflix's hit fantasy series, is up to the task of filling the role.

He's probably a very nice guy, but he seems like a Lambert (open in new tab) type: younger, lanky, a bit of a headache, and prone to getting into avoidable trouble that he can't handle himself. Perhaps it's a preconceived notion, but he would be like a little brother. Hemsworth is, of course, the real-life brother of "Thor" actor Chris Hemsworth, and he definitely has the physique of a kabirian.

That said, Hemsworth landed the role not only because he happened to be standing nearby when Henry quit. According to the Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligence (opens in new tab), he actually auditioned for the role in 2018, which ultimately went to Cavill, but Hemsworth was one of the leading candidates.

In fact, Hemsworth made such a good impression that when it came time to find a replacement, Netflix reportedly did not do a full casting process for the role and instead chose him as the new Geralt.

To be honest, I still have a very hard time envisioning this guy:

as this guy:

but then again, I said the same thing about this guy:

and in the end it all worked out. So for now, I'm feeling a little optimistic about Hemsworth's casting, and I'm definitely going to watch "The Witcher" Season 4.

Several fans have already shown mockups of Hemsworth as Geralt, and while it's completely speculative, it's not a terrible look. Maybe a little more Thor-ish than I prefer, but there's not much you can do about that.

Before that, there's The Witcher Season 3 (opens in new tab), in which Cavill plays the lead role. It is slated for release in the summer of 2023.
