General
Razer Restorify allows you to add carbon credits at checkout.

It's not easy to be environmentally conscious when you can't help but buy the latest and greatest, power-hungry tech products, and jumping into the purchase of an RTX 4090 (opens in new tab) graphics card is really going to shake my eco-guilt (opens in new tab), but Razer has decided to help their customers on their eco-journey by giving them the option of carbon credits.

Razer's Restorify is a "trackable, carbon-neutral checkout solution" that gives you the option to offset your Razer Store purchases with carbon credits. This means that the next time you purchase a mouse, keyboard, or anything else you like from the Razer store (opens in new tab), you can essentially pay Razer to improve its environmental impact.

Consumers rarely get this opportunity because the metric tons of carbon credits that are typically split are too massive (and expensive) for the average consumer to purchase.

Companies such as Amazon, Google, and AT&T have invested in carbon credits. Lenovo (opens in new tab) now allows consumers to purchase carbon credits that can be tracked at the register when purchasing a laptop.

Of concern, however, is that not all carbon credits are created equal, and some companies are caught up in what they call "fake offsets." There is also concern that some carbon credits will be fulfilled, although Razer is at least doing something to quell the latter.

Phil Sturgeon, CEO and founder of the charity Protect Earth (opens in new tab), said, "Carbon offsets are seen as 'cover for bad things' that allow business as usual, but companies, good or bad, increasingly forced to buy carbon credits to cover their entire footprint," he told us. The problem there is that carbon credits can be sequestered/avoided rather than fulfilled (amortized).

Razer sells credits that are "already amortized from a verified carbon registry." In other words, they have already been offset, so you know your money has already been spent to save the planet. You can track your offsets by entering your order number after purchase and delivery (opens in new tab).

It will even tell you the exact amount of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) in pounds of carbon offsets you are offsetting. For example, $0.06 to offset a Sneki cushion equals 4.9 pounds of CO2e.

Razer's plan is to achieve "net zero," or carbon neutrality, by 2030, and its many sustainable initiatives show real drive toward that goal. razer is not only helping to launch an eco-toilet roll (open in new tab) startup Not only is it helping to launch it, but it is also working with 3DMark maker UL to design a way to standardize the measurement (opens in new tab) of eco-gaming products.

Allowing people to purchase carbon credits that have already been achieved is another way Razer is making a difference, and since many other companies, such as Lenovo, are working on this, there is no more need to feel bad about leaving your PC on 24/7 (open in new tab) and you won't have to feel like you have to.
