This "Gotham Knights" update is 9 GB and I don't know why.

There is a new patch for Gotham Knights that addresses some bugs, although it still does not fix the frame rate issue. However, for what Steam classifies as a "small update," it somehow contains 9 GB of updates.

Steam's patch notes (open in new tab) include a total of 14 fixes: 10 general and 4 stability-specific. Some of them appear to be general back-end tweaks rather than actual fixes, such as one that changes the name of the executable to "GothamKnights.exe." The patch also boasts "GPU optimizations for low and medium quality presets," fixes for several unspecified UI bugs, a "redesigned" backup save system, etc. Those using Nvidia's Freestyle reshades should finally be able to do so.

The patch should return cars to normal gravity levels, and they should no longer randomly float. Knights should also be able to work on stealth a bit more effectively and should no longer leap forward after getting off a ledge or beam.

Thankfully, this update will no longer cause the game to crash when trying to join a friend's game on Steam; coupled with "server-side updates to address co-op connection stability," it should make playing with friends much smoother. Other crash fixes include the game no longer crashing on its own when attempting to dismantle currently equipped gear, and several unspecified "additional crash fixes."

It's certainly a chunk of storage there for a "small update," and it's frustrating to see that the stuttering and frame dropping that plague the game has yet to be fixed. It was a bit of a rough launch for Robin, Batgirl and her gang. Tyler Kolp gave the game a 49 in his Gotham Knights review (opens in new tab), noting steep performance issues and finding it unmatched by earlier Arkham games.
