Dave Bautista Auditions for Live-Action "Gears" on Twitter: It Doesn't Get Any Easier!

Earlier this week, Netflix announced (opens in new tab) that it will produce a live-action Gears of War movie. Many fans think that former pro wrestler and current actor Dave Bautista would be perfect for the role of Gears hero Marcus Fenix. Among those fans is Bautista himself.

It's no surprise that Bautista wants to be in the film. He said in 2019 that he has "tried everything" to make a Gears movie happen, and in fact, he appeared as himself in Gears 5. He also looks like Marcus Fenix.

In the years since "Gears 5," Bautista's acting career has blossomed (open in new tab): he had notable roles in "Blade Runner 2049" and "Dune," and starred in a big-budget zombie movie on Netflix (it sucked, but he was good), found a fun place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Drax the Destroyer.

Still, his interest in headlining Gears of War seems undiminished.

Twenty-four hours after the tweet was uploaded, Bautista's tweet had garnered nearly 128,000 likes and this number undoubtedly continues to rise, reflecting the genuine interest (at least among Gears and Bautista's fans) in his getting the job. One of those fans is Cliff Brzezinski, the original designer of Gears of War, who has said that Bautista is his "first choice."

In an earlier tweet, Brzezinski said Karl Urban (open in new tab) could be the lead, Ryan Reynolds (open in new tab) would be "perfect" as Baird, and Ice-T (open in new tab) could play Aaron Griffin. However, he was somewhat less enthusiastic about the prospect of another actor, almost anywhere, who is set to appear in another video game movie next year:

I really don't think you can find anyone better than Bautista to play Marcus Fenix (Karl Urban is a good candidate, but only because Karl Urban is an absolute chameleon), but I think the rest of the cast is debatable. So the question is: if Dave is Marcus, who else would play the role?
