PvPvE Shooter "Scavengers" Closes Without Ending Early Access

"Scavengers," a blend of battle royale and survival PvE shooter, will end service on December 16, 2022, just one year and seven months after its launch (opens in new tab). released as an Early Access game on both Steam and the Epic store and and was quite well received at the time, but has not found a strong following over time since then.

It's a bitter end for the few who found the game enthusiastic on Scavengers and those who spent money on microtransactions. A post titled "Farewell, Cascade Springs" was published on the Scavengers website. (open in new tab)

It certainly didn't help that Scavengers' development company, Midwinter, was sold to owner Improbable Worlds (open in new tab) in May of this year. Improbable had been around for a while, but Scavengers was really their only big release. If they're really betting on the Metaverse, this could be the last time we hear about Improbable Worlds Limited on PC Gamer. (Opens in a new tab)

Scavengers describes itself as a "strategic survival battlefield" involving three-man squads that "compete for survival and domination in a hybrid of sandbox-style PVE and class-based PVP. The game, consisting of pre-prepared characters, was like a PvPvE battle royale plus a class shooter. It was pretty bland game comfort food, and only those who approached it that way seemed to like it. (Sorry, Rich...) (Open in new tab)

Scavengers was available on the Epic Store (open in new tab) and Steam. (Open in new tab) At the time of publication, it is still on Epic Store, but is no longer available for download on Steam.
