Streamer with shattered back at TwitchCon appears in stream for first time since injury

Three weeks after breaking her back at TwitchCon, Adriana Chechick details her recovery in her first post-incident stream.

TwitchCon San Diego took place earlier this month. There, streamers participated in gladiator-style battles and a foam pit where they tried to knock each other off a Styrofoam platform. It sounded like fun, but rather than a "pit," the situation was more like a single styrofoam cube on a concrete floor. This was unfortunately discovered when Chechik tried to celebrate her victory with a cheerleader toe touch. She landed on her tailbone and broke her back in two places.

In the weeks since then, Chechik has been updating her status on Twitter. After several surgeries, one of which lasted more than five hours, it was revealed that she had "more fusion than expected, bone completely shattered" and "nerve damage" to her bladder. She returned home a week later and wrote on Twitter, "The worst part about this is the constant pain. It hurts to walk, it hurts to lie down, it hurts to sleep.

Now Chechick has appeared on Twitch for the first time since the foam pit incident. Dressed as the "Bride of Chucky," she revealed her current state of mind after surgery and about a month into her recovery. 'You probably can't tell I'm out of breath anymore,' she said. 'I get short of breath just holding my cell phone. She also showed off her surgical scars, saying the surgeon "did a great job," adding: "I'm a model, so the stitches are inside." She later posted a photo of it on Twitter, confirming that the scar was about 11 cm.

Chechick also revealed that she found out she was pregnant during the surgery, but was unable to have the baby because of the surgery. 'I don't care, everybody knows I was pregnant,' she said in the stream. 'I didn't find out until I was in the hospital. I'm not pregnant anymore. I couldn't maintain the pregnancy because of the surgery. But because of that, my hormones are all messed up."

Not surprisingly, the stream made no mention of the lawsuit against Twitch or Lenovo, which operated the foam pit at the event. It is likely that everything that is going on is being done behind closed doors, and if a settlement is reached early, it is possible that nothing will be heard at all; Twitch has not commented since the incident occurred, and Lenovo told Rolling Stone during the event that they were "aware of the incident," in a rather vague Lenovo also made a rather vague comment to Rolling Stone during the event, stating that they were aware of the incident, and have remained silent since closing their booth.
