Modern Warfare 2" sniper rifle for beginners is a single laser beam

Infinity Ward would have us believe that history is written by the victors, but the resurgent dominance of the SPR-208 Marksman rifle in Modern Warfare 2 shows that history is more apt to repeat itself. warzone 1.0 bolts The action killing machine has returned with a vengeance in Modern Warfare 2, and it's the same beast (opens in new tab). Few things in Call of Duty make instant death feel easy.

Maybe it's my cerebral palsy and apathy, but I've never been able to handle sniping well in a multiplayer FPS. So when I first tried the SPR-208 in Ground War, I was taken aback. For a guy with a rather unimpressive average K/D of 1.25, the performance of the SPR-208 was spectacular.

The spacious maps of Ground War and Invasion are not the only environments where SPR-208 excels.

While many sniper rifles are capable of one-shot kills, the SPR is unique in that it is easy to obtain (unlocked at level 7), can be aimed quickly without attachments, and has iron sights so clear that one would doubt the need for a scope. The dire state of shotguns further elevates the SPR-208 as a natural choice for those using the Overkill perk (carrying two primary weapons). Specifically, the SPR-208 closely resembles the dominant Intervention sniper rifle (open in new tab) of the bygone days of the original Modern Warfare 2, and unfairly operates like a Kar-98k. the SPR-208 is only in theory marksman rifle, and it is only marginally more difficult to shoot the torso at close range for an immediate kill. [The SPR-208 was added mid-game in Modern Warfare 2019 & Warzone 1.0 and nerfed significantly shortly thereafter; Call of Duty subreddit users are already eyeing the bolt-action Death Star ( open in new tab):

With some players calling for the complete removal of sniper rifles from Ground War & Invasion mode (open in new tab), it is clear that Infinity Ward has a bit of a conundrum regarding snipers. Call of Duty has always been laissez-faire when it comes to game balance, but the invisible hand does show its face once in a while, and the SPR-208 is overtuned, with the kill count to prove it.
