Modern Warfare 2" disables ping transmission following a bug that can be used for wall hacks.

During launch week, a few cheeky bugs slipped through the cracks and caused a bit of a nightmare for Modern Warfare 2 players. As a drastic temporary solution, Infinity Ward disabled two key gameplay features.

Polygon reports that the developer tweeted over the weekend that it was "disabling attachment tuning until further notice" because it was causing crashes for players tuning five attachments. Infinity Ward added, "If you currently have a tuned attachment equipped, you will need to unequip it and reequip it in order to use the loadout."

Infinity Ward does not mention the ping system issue in the tweet, but it is mentioned on the current Modern Warfare 2 Trello board. While it does not specify what the exact problem is, a video posted on Reddit points to a fairly likely reason for the disabling: a bug in the ping transmission, which turns out to be accidentally creating an army of wall hackers. If you ping an enemy after they are dead, their marker will remain hanging over their head for the entire remainder of the match. This means that players can repeatedly pick off pinged enemies in this way.

It is unclear when either of these issues will be fixed. The attachment tuning issue does not seem to be on the Trello bulletin board for some reason, but the ping system issue is currently listed as "being fixed"; it may be that Trello will be used by Infinity Ward as a way to communicate bugs in the future. Even if the developers got a little tricky in setting up the message boards and accidentally made them publicly editable, causing players to post nonsense. And, of course, posts begging for SBMM to remove them.
