'Modern Warfare 2' Players Create Clever Trick to Save Thousands of XP in Seconds

Multiplayers in "Modern Warfare 2" have discovered a backdoor trick to earn thousands of XP in no time.

First documented on Reddit, the trick requires climbing on top of an enemy tank with an open hatch and dropping a mine behind its turret. The mines activate and run around repeatedly subduing the tank's inhabitants, awarding a large amount of XP to the player who dropped the mines. [Getting on top of an enemy tank during a game of MW2 draws a rather large target on its back, and it takes a bit of skill and luck to land the mine in just the right spot; a commenter on the original Reddit thread wrote, "Climbing up on an enemy tank and dropping a mine in the right spot without getting sniped or run over is A few players came to the conclusion that "it would have been more efficient to play the game normally, as it is very difficult to climb up on enemy tanks and drop mines in the right places without getting hit by snipers.

Still, if you manage to pull it off, the potential rewards are great. Moreover, the rolling XP gain ticker that flashes on the screen when you achieve it has an intoxicating effect, almost like a cookie clicker. If the numbers don't go up, what's the game for?" If you want to try it out for yourself, the sooner the better; Infinity Ward won't want to keep this trick in the game for long.

Modern Warfare 2, released last week, had a strong launch weekend (open in new tab) despite a few crashes and a bug (which I think the developers should keep) that caused a yawning black void to gradually expand and swallow your entire field of vision. The meta has yet to settle down, but players are already making great use of overpowered sniper rifles (opens in new tab) and anti-camp drill charges (opens in new tab) to ruin each other's day. And one hotel in Amsterdam is considering legal action (opens in new tab) against the game, complaining about the inclusion of its hotel in one of MW2's levels. Ups and downs, I guess.
