The rewards for "Overwatch 2" are so measly that you can earn coins faster by playing "WoW" instead.

"Overwatch 2" rewards are worse than DPS's Moira. The shift in focus to free-to-play, coupled with weekly rewards that Morgan Park described as "insultingly low," has been aggressively monetized. It takes seven months to get a legendary skin, even without a credit card. It takes so long that you might as well play a completely different game.

Some "World of Warcraft" fans have decided that. User Everdale, who posted on Reddit earlier this week, garnered considerable attention when he claimed that playing Blizzard's MMO "Overwatch 2" would get him an "Overwatch 2" skin faster than playing the hero shooter. It turns out that World of Warcraft has a system where you can buy tokens with in-game gold and convert them into Battle.net credits. At about $15/£10 per token, this is not a bad reward for shaving off a bit of gold.

While not a directly comparable system, Overwatch 2 currently offers a small amount of coin per week for completing challenges. Completing all 11 challenges for the week will net you 60 gold coins. Some of these challenges can be a bit of a challenge, such as winning 10 games each as two different roles. So unless you only play that game, you are unlikely to earn the full weekly reward; even if you earn 60 coins per week, that's about 16 weeks for the Battle Pass and just under 32 weeks for the Legend Skin. That's a little too much.

If you play WoW, though, those 16 weeks could be reduced to about 2 weeks. User Xenon1366 commented in a Reddit thread that the token method is "exactly how I got my Battle Pass," and PC Gamer asked for more details on how it works." It really depends on how you want to play the game. 'I have about six level 60s that I do the Covenant Sanctum mission board with. Then we also do daily covenant callings. So every day we get 20,000 gold with minimal play. The last I saw the tokens were priced at about $230,000, so we get a token about every 10 days.

Of course, this does not mean that WoW token earning is a definitively superior method. Of course, this is not to say that token grading in WoW is the definitively superior method. Also, the price of tokens is affected by supply and demand, and it can take quite a while for the value to rise. However, if you already play WoW frequently and want to dabble a bit in Overwatch tomfoolery, this may be a method worth trying.

The situation also illustrates how dismal the monetization of Overwatch 2 has been. Aside from fans being outraged over "greedy" bundles and reselling "Overwatch 1" skins for $20 a pop, it sucks to see a sense of reward practically drained from the game. I personally hate battle passes, but I have no problem with them as a concept. Loot boxes sucked too, but I felt a far more consistent flow of goodies than I do now. Gone are the days when you could get a crappy voice line or spray before a match and play around with it unless you were willing to actually spend the money.
