The Sims 4 finally lets me mess up my house

Since The Sims 2, the bulk of my custom content (opens in new tab) library has been clutter. That's why I'm excited to see The Sims 4 release a new kit dedicated to nicknames and knick-knacks.

The Everyday Clutter Kit is my favorite part of the building process and seems to give the simmer a lot of personal touches they can put into their buildings. I only have a few screenshots yet, but from what I've seen, I already like it. The ones that impress me the most right now are the three rows of used mugs (with their customary stains and used tea bags), the headphone stand, and the reading glasses.

There are also items that help to make the sims more unique. In addition to cosmetics, jewelry stands, and ring lights, there are plenty of fitness items, including water bottles, dumbbells, and yoga mats. In addition, there are mini chess sets for clever sims and graphics tablets for more creatively inclined sims. Clutter can make a Sims' building look unlivable or livable, and players who like to decorate often ask for clutter to be added.

This is not the only kit available. There is also the Pastel Pop Kit, a collaboration with Sims YouTuber Plumbella. This kit features soft pastels and shapes with 60s and 70s inspiration in the patterns and palette. It's a very cute kit and fits Plumbella's style perfectly. She has been a great creator in the community for years and I spent many hours watching her while I was holed up in The Sims 4 in 2020.

I'm still not sold on the whole kit concept. It's nice to see a more focused concept that isn't necessarily big enough for a staff, game, or expansion pack, but the announcement of Project Rene (open in new tab) is a minimalist effort to fill the gap until the development of "The Sims 4" comes to a close. It feels like an approachable effort. Regardless, this clutter kit will definitely be entering my ever-growing collection of Sims 4 expansions. (opens in new tab)

Both kits will be available on November 10.
