Resident Evil Village VR may be coming to PC

In June, Sony announced that "Resident Evil 7: Resident Evil Village" would be released on PSVR2 (opens in new tab), one of the best horror games on PC, and that we would get the same treatment on our platform of choice. As much as we would like to see this happen, it seemed unlikely given that the VR version of "Resident Evil 7: Resident Evil" has yet to be released.

Until now.Redditor u/LitheBeep data-mined for hints (open in new tab) that Village VR might be released on PC after all. They found the strings "OpenVR," "OculusTouch," "OculusVR," "OculusRemote," and "autoLaunchSteamVROnButtonPress" in the game executable, followed by PSVR.

He also noted that on October 28, Capcom updated the Steam store tag (opens in new tab) for "Resident Evil Village" to add a "VR" tag. Store tags can be added by Steam users, but publishers themselves can also add or remove tags. Adding and removing tags is an important part of marketing, as these tags determine whether a game appears in the "more like this" section, as well as whether it is highlighted in "recommended for you" boxes, themed sales, etc.

However, to throw a little skeptical cold water on the rumor fire before it fully flares, it is worth noting that Capcom also added a VR tag to "Resident Evil 7" (opens in new tab) in June of 2017, and we are still waiting to see what it becomes. Furthermore, the SteamDB history shows that the VR tag was first added to the Village in May 2021 (open in new tab), then removed (open in new tab), and then added again and again (open in new tab) along with tags of dubious relevance like "hentai" and "dating sim". Perhaps there is logic behind this constant change of tags-maybe the mysterious Steam algorithm likes it." Much of what goes on behind the scenes of Steam's store page is superstitious.

Until there is an official announcement, we will have to make do with a mod that adds VR support to "Resident Evil Village". This is the work of modder Praydog, and it works with "Resident Evil 2", "Resident Evil 3", and "Resident Evil 7". This is nice to see.

The recently released "Resident Evil 7: Resident Evil Village" DLC Winter's Expansion includes a third-person camera, additional characters for the Mercenaries mode, and a story scenario where you play Ethan's daughter Rose. While satisfactory, the additions were few.
