Team Ninja's burly "masocore" slash 'em up to be released early next year.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty" (opens in new tab), the next installment in Team Ninja's mythology and locust-driven universe, has a new release date. Players will be able to carve out Wo Long's Han Dynasty China "through Windows and Steam" on March 3, 2023.

Developed with Dynasty Warriors creator Koei Tecmo, Wo Long is billed as a "dark fantasy Three Kingdoms masochistic core game" and was first seen at Microsoft's summer showcase this June ( (Open in new tab). Locusts flit over corpses, smoke rises from burning villages, and everywhere you look, fat men are wielding stick figures. In other words, it looks like "Jin-O" with a "Warriors"-style dynamic added to it.

The game ran a limited-time demo (opens in new tab) in September (now unfortunately closed), and the response to it was generally positive. The demo did not introduce much of the game's storyline and threw everyone into the game world with nothing more than a big sword and a dream, but it did give everyone a taste of the combat. You need to play smart and look for openings in the enemy, but you also need to balance your attention span and attack power and manage your mental bar.

If you haven't had a chance to try the demo, don't wait too long; March is only about four months away, at which point you too will have a chance to "overcome difficulties by awakening the true power within." Updates can be found on the game's Steam page (opens in new tab) and Twitter account (opens in new tab).
