The fantastic sound of the sniper rifle in the new "Destiny" animation took years to create.

Destiny has some great-feeling weapons in a game that makes you willing to spend hours grinding for them, but the incredibly animated Mechabre sniper rifle that recently appeared in the game made a particularly big splash, and Bungie's sound designer Juan Pablo Uribe took to Twitter to share the process of creating this gun (opens in new tab).

As part of this year's Festival of the Lost Halloween event, Bungie recreated the Gundam complete with mech-inspired skins and weapons. The mecha-braided sniper rifle will be a great addition to your PvP arsenal, and the sound design is fantastic.

If you're not in a position to listen to Uribe's video embedded below, you're missing out. There is no mistaking the blouson sound when you look through the scope, nor the crackling sound when you fire. This is pure, unadulterated toonamicore. This gun embodies the spirit of staying up too late on a Saturday in 2001 to get a good one.

"As soon as I saw the concept art for the Mechablue sniper rifle, I knew it needed a sound to match its aesthetic. Normally, Festival of the Lost doesn't do full custom audio for weapons," said Uribe, adding that other Festival of the Lost additions, such as the Jurassic Green pulse rifle and the Braytech Werewolf auto-rifle He contrasted Mechabre with other Festival of the Lost additions such as the Jurassic Green pulse rifle and the Braytech Werewolf auto-rifle.

"But this weapon was screaming to be treated like an anime, so I worked with the team to find the right references and nailed the sound. As a lover of anime sound, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Uribe also explained that some elements of Mechabre's unique sound were years in the making. I love sound design, so when I'm not working on Destiny, I just spend my time designing sounds for fun. So I spend a lot of time creating sounds with no end goal and hoarding them in my library in the hope that one day they will shine."

This extracurricular activity eventually bore fruit with Mechabre's signature retort." Such was the case with the Mechabre sniper rifle! A few years ago, I created a sound suite that I felt was very close to the classic anime sounds of the 80s and 90s, and I sat back and waited for it to one day be used in the best way possible."

It's little touches like these that make Destiny's massive arsenal truly irresistible. After all, it takes a secret sauce to get people to keep grinding for their guns for hundreds or thousands of hours, and Destiny's recent animated adaptation is full of temptation to rekindle the loot shooter yearnings of yesteryear.
