Cross-play: Some people like it, some don't. While it's nice to have more people to play with, console players sometimes turn off cross-play to avoid being overwhelmed by the speed and precision (or cheats (open in new tab)) of the mouse and keyboard. But for Xbox and PC players of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, this is literally not an option.

According to multiple complaints on Reddit (opens in new tab), there is no option to disable crossplay in Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox or PC... I can't speak for Xbox, but when I checked the game on PC, there is no on/off toggle It was. But what makes this situation really odd is that several Redditors have said that the PlayStation 5 version of the game has a toggle for cross-play; Eurogamer (opens in new tab) confirmed that the PS5 menu option is present.

On Xbox consoles, it's possible to turn it off by disabling crossplay entirely from the console's privacy settings (opens in new tab), but that can be a hassle for those who want to enable crossplay for games other than Modern Warfare 2. And, of course, it means nothing to PC players stuck with crossplay enabled.

This is a strange situation. It's not necessarily a good thing that Activision is mandating crossplay for everyone, but it's at least understandable. But to have it optional on one console but not on the other (and not on PC) is a strange decision, assuming, of course, that it's not a bug. In the "Modern Warfare 2" subreddit, it's clear that Microsoft wants Xbox and Some players have theorized that Microsoft made this decision in order to integrate the Xbox and PC into one ecosystem, but I think it's unlikely: at its core, removing the cross-play toggle is denying a basic feature, and whatever the intention, it's not going to make anyone happy. It would not be possible.
