Netflix's "The Witcher" Changes Geralt's Casting, Henry Cavill Drops Out of Season 3

Netflix announced via its official website (opens in new tab) that Henry Cavill has stepped down as Geralt of Rivia and that Liam Hemsworth will play the titular Witcher character in the newly announced season 4 and (possibly) beyond. The third season of The Witcher is scheduled to be released this summer and will be Cavill's last as Geralt of Livia.

"I pass the torch with respect for the time I spent embodying Geralt, as well as a great literary character, and with enthusiasm for Liam playing this most fascinating and nuanced of men." Cavill posted on Instagram (opens in new tab). 'Liam, this character has great depth: you said you were willing to do seven seasons of "The Witcher" if Netflix would let you. The recasting must be a disappointment to many fans. We PC gamers like Henry Cavill (opens in new tab), and he brings out Gellert's emotional and intellectual complexity well. Does Liam Hemsworth paint miniatures? Does he build gaming PCs?

It is not certain, but Cavill's departure from the Netflix show is no doubt related to his return to Warner Bros.' DC Comics films (open in new tab) as Superman. Cavill previously took a break from filming "The Witcher" Season 3 to make a cameo in the recently released "Black Adam." [Meanwhile, Hemsworth's Instagram (opens in new tab) says, "As a Witcher fan, I am overjoyed at the opportunity to play Geralt of Livia." Hemsworth previously appeared in the Hunger Games series and Independence Day: Resurrection.

The Witcher show made headlines earlier this week when it was revealed that several of the show's writers "actively dislike" the books and games. (open in new tab) [13] [14
