More than anything, I use my Discord Nitro subscription to spam emojis from my 80 or so servers wherever I want. Animated avatars, better stream quality" No, all I need is an adorable cat emoji when DMing my buddies. Thankfully, for those like me who say that's all they need for a Nitro subscription, Discord is now offering a cheaper tier.

Nitro Basic is the newest and cheapest subscription option for the premium service. At $2.99 per month, it is $7 less than the full version and $2 less than the intermediate Nitro Classic. As the name implies, it's much more bare-bones than Nitro's full service, with uploads up to 50MB, customized video backgrounds, and of course, the ability to use any emoji on any server or private message. Nitro Basic also offers Discord stickers and custom server stickers are also available. Some may think it's silly to pay just to use emojis, but for people like me who use Discord as their primary means of talking to their buddies, it's more than worth paying a few bucks a month.

This is not the only new feature to hit Discord. Copyright issues aside, Google and Discord appear to be working together to create a YouTube Watch Together feature, which, according to The Verge, has actually been tested for over a year and is now widely available to users. Anyone can create a playlist of videos, and other Discord users can join in and sync to watch and listen to them. It seems pretty similar to what extensions and websites already offer, but it is nice to see that it is now available directly from Discord.

YouTube Watch Together is part of the new Activity feature. Join the audio channel and click on the rocket ship icon, and several activities will drop down; in addition to Watch Together, there are the standard mini-games such as chess, 8-ball, and poker. I can imagine this being a fun way to pass the time while waiting in line for other games, or as a silly casual game when the night is winding down.

Nitro Basic will be released in full on October 20. Activities should be rolling out now; Watch Together and the golf mini-game Putt Party are free, but the other activities require at least one member to have Discord Nitro.
