Rockstar throws life preserver to man who played Red Dead Online for 6,000 hours in stadia

Colour, a streamer with 6,000 hours (opens in new tab) on the Stadia version of Red Dead Redemption 2, is about to be saved from a doomed platform Screenshot of message from Rockstar's support account According to the shot (opens in new tab), Stadia players will be able to transfer currency and progression from Stadia to other platforms.

Google's sudden announcement that Stadia will close in January 2023 sent developers and players scurrying; some developers who had work in progress for Stadia were laid off (opens in new tab), while others were fired, and players' saved game progress had to figure out how to help transfer the status.

Few people seem to have had it as bad as Color, a content creator who specializes in "Red Dead Online 2" on Stadia. With the announcement of the platform's closure, he feared he would lose nearly 6,000 hours' worth of game progress.

Thankfully, Rockstar followed Bungie, IO Interactive, and Zenimax Online in announcing the account migration of Stadia players. In a message to content creator Colour, Red Dead Online players can transfer all of their Stadia currency and experience to their accounts on other platforms through the Rockstar Social Club.

Rockstar has not yet shared details or a timeline for this process, and we have reached out to the company for comment.

Colour is understandably relieved by the news, stating that their collective struggle to get Rockstar to address the issue has "saved the entire community of players from losing all of their online progress." So here's to 6,000 more hours. We just hope he doesn't forget to take a break.
