Philips Announces New Gaming Brand Evnia

Philips' new Evnia brand for gaming was unveiled last night at a major event at the Stade de France (opens in new tab). The announced lineup includes not only a new line of gaming monitors, but also Philips' foray into peripherals.

The Greek word Evnia (Εύνοια) directly translates to "smart," explains a Philips spokesperson. In other words, "smart thinking," explained the Philips spokesperson. Today, we use the word to mean "showing interest in protecting and supporting someone or something," she continued. All of this is what the Evnia brand stands for and represents a real push toward a more inclusive future of gaming that focuses "not just on what's in the hardware, but who uses it."

Comprised of three distinct tiers, the 5000, 7000, and 8000 series, Evnia will soon offer matching gaming monitors, mice, and keyboards. [The 42M2N8900 will offer 138 Hz, 0.1 ms response time, and HDMI 2.1. A 34-inch curved OLED (34M2C8600), a UHD gaming monitor with a 21:9 aspect ratio, will also be available, as will a curved 32-inch ultrawide monitor called the 34M2C7600MV, with a native resolution of 3440x1440 and 165Hz refresh, DisplayHDR 1400 support. A 27" curved VA screen with high refresh is also in the planning stages.

Along with the newly announced monitors, keyboards with Cherry MX switches (SPK8508 and SPK8708), two all-new gaming mice (SPK9508 and SPK9708), and two gaming headsets (TAG5208 and TAG7208 ) will be available, allowing for a full Evnia set-up.

These can be synchronized with Philips Ambiglow and managed with another Philips announcement last night: the Philips Precision Center, which allows profiles to be synchronized and stored in the cloud.

By December, at least the 34M2C7600MV gaming monitor will be in stores, followed by the 42M2N8900, 34M2C8600, and 27M2C5500W monitors in mid-January next year. Pricing is only in euros at this time, with the high-end monitors priced at €2,069 and the others at €1,959, €1,849, and €579, respectively. In North America, the 34M2C8600, 34M2C7600MV, and 42M2N8900 have confirmed prices of $1,499, $1,799, and $1,599, respectively.

Unfortunately, accessories will not be available until next June.
