The latest update to Steam Deck will tell you which fan your unit has

Do you know what's in your Steam deck (opens in new tab)? Now you can find out what's inside without breaking it or risking voiding your warranty.Valve's latest client update (opens in new tab) adds a new section to your system settings that shows the exact model and manufacturer of the major components in your unit. manufacturer are now displayed.

"This information is being released to provide you with clearer and more transparent information about the components in your Steam Deck and their manufacturers. This information will also be useful for customers looking to repair or replace components via iFixit."

The update seems to be specifically targeted at Steam Deck owners wanting to know which model fan they have: Valve ships units with fans manufactured by both Delta and Huaying, but one fan has been The company has been criticized for the high pitch of one of its fans (opens in new tab).

Unfortunately, this update does not provide a live look inside the Steam Deck. Valve states that "updates, swaps, and repairs made after you received your Steam Deck will not be reflected in this view."

That somewhat limits the value of the component search, but most people who have opened a Deck already know what's in it or wouldn't mind going back to find out. The majority of owners are likely to rely on the official repair center (open in new tab) when internal work needs to be done, so inaccuracies in component search after repair would not be an issue (and probably would not be noticed).

Valve also provided an update (opens in new tab) on loud fans, stating that after investigating complaints, they have developed an "engineered foam solution" to reduce noise for Steam backplates. This modification applies to both models of fans used in Decks and both will continue to be used. It certainly looks better than cramming a big bunch of electrical tape (open with new tab) inside the unit.

The new client update is currently available through the Steam Deck beta channel. To participate, go into Steam Deck settings, go into the system menu, and select the Steam Update channel. This update also includes many other changes and fixes.
