New Blood's "Fallout" tribute will be first-person combat.

New Blood's "Fallout" tribute will be first-person combat.

New Blood's new CRPG (opens in new tab), announced in June, is intentionally inspired by the original isometric Fallout game. Not only does the project feature two veterans of the Fallout modding scene, but original composer Mark Morgan will provide the soundtrack.

This is clearly an homage, but not a copy. The as-yet-untitled game deviates from the original in at least one obvious way: in a Twitter thread, Dave Oshry, the head of New Blood, said that it will not be playable or fully revealed for "a long time" He provided a rare update on the project (consider that what you know and have seen has not been officially revealed).

"The biggest complaint about the classic Fallout games must always have been the slow and clunky nature of turn-based combat," Oshry wrote.

"While still turn-based, I feel that switching to a style and perspective more akin to the classic dungeon crawler has made it more engaging.

See below; as Oshry writes, it is a first-person perspective, but not a boomer shooter. Most impressive is the art by Alexander 'Red888guns' Berezin, who created popular mods for Fallout Sonora and Olympus 2207.

Several other features can be seen in the 30-second snippet (albeit features expected of a Fallout homage). Dialogue options range from diplomatic to cheeky, and there is an action log. The first-person perspective itself is also very engaging.

Still, given that the game has not even been "revealed" yet, things will probably change between now and when the game is actually playable.
