Forget Prime Day! Criterion's 50% off sale is the real deal of the day!

PC gamers, forgive us for bringing you a deal that has absolutely nothing to do with PC gaming. That's because today is a special day: for the next 25 hours, everything Criterion sells is 50% off (opens in a new tab), and since it's a 24-hour flash sale, these deals won't last long.

The Criterion Collection is known for producing expensive but lavish disc releases of acclaimed films. They often include new and archival interviews, audio commentaries by film scholars and directors, and film-to-digital restorations that look much better than the older films.

Most excitingly, Criterion has recently begun updating its library to include 4K Blu-rays. So far there are only 24 (open in new tab), but there are already some great films on that list. Why spend time discussing the video game "Citizen Kane" when you can watch the movie "Citizen Kane" in 4K UHD?

Everything in the Criterion collection, from 4K discs to old DVDs, is 50% off. This is an especially good time to pick up Criterion's Extra Deluxe Collection:

If you have a Blu-ray drive in your PC or use a Plex server, this could be considered a PC-related sale. But honestly, I think it's a trick that Criterion doesn't have a single video game movie in its collection. The live-action "Super Mario Bros." movie starring Bob Hoskins (opens in new tab)? That's art. Castlevania, Netflix series: ...... Not a movie, but still Criterion-worthy, "Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture" (opens in new tab)? Not a masterpiece, but I guarantee it's better than "Armageddon". The game will one day get its own artistic film collection.

The Criterion Collection 50% Off Flash Sale (opens in new tab) is going on now and ends Wednesday at 9am PST.
