No More Heroes 3" Launches on PC, but for Some Reason on Switch

Update 10/13/22: Publisher Xseed has since posted an update on Steam, promising a patch that "improves some of the visual elements of this version, including drawing distance."

It also said that patches are coming for the first two games on Steam; Xseed said, "We have made an internal effort to address these issues. This has delayed things and we apologize for the lack of communication up to this point, but rest assured that we will provide further information as soon as we are confident that we have a patch ready for release."

Original text follows.

The original "No More Heroes" game was, for me, a Grasshopper Manufacture game. The studio, represented by creative leader Goichi Suda, a.k.a. Suda51, has produced a number of offbeat and quirky titles, including Killer7 and Shadows of the Damned, which are favorites of anyone who is devoted to the studio's games. But my highest compliment to Grasshopper is that, for better or worse, they never bore.

"No More Heroes" is arguably the company's most successful title (certainly the one with the most follow-ups), and last year "No More Heroes 3" was released on Switch. And yesterday, it finally launched on Steam, but there may be a few reasons not to get too excited.

I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but the first thing that raises eyebrows is its price: it's $44.99/£44.99, which is a lot of money for a game that is fully expected to be a junk fest. There is a 10% discount for the launch, but oh well.

But the bigger complaint in early Steam reviews is that this is an upgraded port of the Switch version, not a shiny PS5/Xbox re-release. This may not necessarily be a bad thing. Because I thought the Switch version looked great anyway, and the game's main feature is its uncapped frame rate.

No More Heroes 3 divided critics as soon as it launched, and it was always going to do so. Either you're halfway into a game like this and revel in the trashy elements and slapped-together feel, or you're terrible and wonder why anyone likes this game at all. This release has me hooked, but despite the price, I would go back to Santa Destroy! It may be great, it may be middling, but it will be memorable.
