The most complex and infamous game on PC, first tutorial published in 16 years.

It's fun to watch the graphical version of Dwarf Fortress inch its way toward release. Cute pixel art, mouse support, tabs, and other things that are commonplace in most games are a bit of a thrill for Dwarf Fortress players. Strangely enough, a tutorial has been added to one of the most laid-back computer games ever made. What wild ideas will they come up with next?

"Dwarf Fortress has the well-deserved title of being one of the most torturous games to learn," co-creator Zach Adams wrote in the latest Steam update. Even after changing all the ridiculous keyboard commands and replacing the Matrix-like interface with understandable and awesome pixel art, there's still a lot going on." But something still needs to be done. Something to ease the need to go straight to the wiki to understand what's going on. The answer, of course, is a tutorial.

As you can see from the screenshots in the Steam post, the tutorial covers many of the major obstacles for new players of Dwarf Fortress. Color-coded text boxes with important features introduce these concepts and walk you through them step-by-step.

Combined with mouse control and a clear graphical interface, this tutorial will put to rest Dwarf Fortress' reputation for overwhelming complexity. It is an incredibly deep game, but once you get past the arcane interface, getting the fortress up and running is not too difficult.

Surviving is another story. The tutorial probably won't teach you to dig a hole in the aquifer to keep the entire fortress from drowning or prevent the first invasion of bloodthirsty elves.

Dwarf Fortress is mostly developed by Tarn and Zach Adams, and the new tutorials are still family friendly. It wasn't until I played through the tutorial. After one failed attempt at the original tutorial, the latest version of the tutorial made her so good at the game that she was able to tunnel under the swamp and drown the fortress. 'Our goal is to make this level of play attainable for everyone. We want people all over the world to be able to beat this game and have fun playing it"

.

A release date for the Steam version of Dwarf Fortress has not yet been set, but they are optimistic that it will be playable in 2023.
