Elden Ring data analyst finds pieces of DLC evidence in latest patch

Following the 1.07 update of Elden Ring, Lance McDonald and Zullie the Witch, prolific data enthusiasts for the Souls series, have published evidence of a new DLC area added behind the patch and possible ray tracing support.

Zullie (opens in a new tab) wrote: "m20_00_00_00: ????? shared a screenshot of the Elden Ring level list, including an entry for "m20_00_00_00."

As Zullie points out, m10-19 is preceded by legacy dungeons such as Stormveil Castle (m10_00_00_00) and underground areas such as Siofra and Ainsel ( These are all preceded by m12). Although far from certain, there seems to be evidence that m20 is the designation of a future DLC legacy dungeon.

Zullie also points to another mysterious item, m45. This does not correspond directly to the map file currently in the game and is left to pure speculation. My guess is that it is meant as an ID for a new, separate overworld area to house the DLC legacy dungeon (or one of the multiple expansions From Software is developing, if any). Or if m20 covers as many areas as m12's Underground ID, then m45 might make sense as an ID for a DLC side dungeon.

Lance McDonald (open in new tab) shared an excerpt of menu text related to the graphic settings for ray tracing. Enabling raytracing locks in the quality-first performance setting. Raytracing settings are only applied after returning to the title menu." This vaunted lighting technology was supposed to be added after the launch of Elden Ring, but was not heard from for a long time after the launch.

Personally, I have yet to play a game where I feel ray tracing is worth the performance, but Elden Ring still caps at 60 fps and is lightweight enough to run on a Steam deck, so maybe I'll just keep playing. If From Software is still expanding the graphics options for the mega-hit, I'm hoping for DLSS or FidelityFX support, or even a higher frame rate limit. One can dream, right?
