Elden Ring's 1.07 Patch Introduces PvP-Only Nerf, Buffs Many Weapons

With the 1.07 update to Elden Ring (opens in new tab), From Software has taken steps to ensure the long-term health and multiplayer balance of the game. The biggest change is the decoupling of PvP and PvE weapon balance, but From has also buffed a wide variety of weapons and spells.

This first change has been a longstanding issue for FromSoftware, and to my knowledge, they have never attempted this in the "Souls" series or "Bloodborne" The ability to adjust weapons separately for PvP and PvE content is very important for live service games is very important, allowing developers to adjust pain points in one mode without having to over-modify them in the other; while I don't think Elden Ring is in danger of becoming a live service game, this is still a welcome change. I like PvP in Elden Ring, but I'm not going for it. It wouldn't feel good to have my preferred single player strategy hampered by hardcore PvP players finding and abusing nasty tricks in a mode I've barely touched.

As a first round of PvP-only tweaks, From Software increased the cost of blocking attacks, increased the overall damage of poise (stagger), nerfed most Ashes of War, and nerfed some AoE spells.

In addition, From Software buffed numerous other weapons and spells in both PvP and PvE. While I am a big fan of the Katana from the Souls series, the Elden Ring is really dominated by its signature unique swords, the Rivers of Blood (opens in new tab) and Moonveil (opens in new tab). Despite the wide range of weapons available in Elden Ring, players have been criticized for gravitating toward a small number of weapons. The full list of changes is as follows:
