No More *Heroes 1 and 2 finally fixed on PC

"No More Heroes" (opens in new tab) 1 and 2 have been suffering on PC and will soon be fixed, publisher XSEED has announced.

In a Steam discussion announcement (opens in new tab), XSEED's Community Development Manager Luke Brown said, "We are very aware of the issues that have affected this title since launch and have been trying to develop patches for over a year, I can report that we have brought efforts in-house to address these issues." XSEED then apologized for the delay and lack of communication and said that it would "provide further information as soon as we are confident that we can provide the patch in a releasable form."

"No More Heroes," released on the Wii in 2007 and 2010, respectively, is an action-adventure game directed by Suda 51, who also directed "Killer7" and "Lollipop Chainsaw." Both games were ported to PC last June, but have been criticized by the gaming community with complaints of broken achievements, animation, and audio. More generally, little effort appears to have been made to port the games for the PC, and the credits and button layout of the Switch version of the game on which the PC port is based has reportedly been adopted.

The Switch version was co-developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, the developer of NMH, and Engine Software, the third-party studio that helped port the well-received Killer7 to PC. Presumably, that relationship did not work out so well for the two "No More Heroes" games, and as a result, XSEED made an in-house decision to revise the release.

As for why XSEED made the decision to release these upcoming patches now, it may have something to do with the fact that No More Heroes 3, the 2021 sequel to NMH 2, was released on PC this week (opens in new tab). This third game, also based on the Switch port, currently has a "very favorable" rating on Steam, although it only has 81 reviews at the time of writing.
