Blizzard has no immediate plans to buff or nerf heroes in "Overwatch 2"

So Overwatch 2 has launched and is up and running in one piece. The game has been plagued by a variety of launch issues, from server queues (open in new tab) to broken hero abilities (open in new tab), but most players are now immersed in matches and trying out new metas. And while some may think one or two heroes are broken (overpowered) or broken (terrible), Blizzard has no plans to rework or rebalance any of them yet.

In a post-launch blog (opens in new tab) update, the first order of business was to address heroes and their win rates. According to that post, there are heroes with high win rates between different skill levels, but no heroes in desperate need of balancing. Currently, all heroes have a win rate of 45-55%, which is quite good, despite the fact that some players feel that some heroes are over-represented.

The only exception is that Zarya will change with one mode in the next big patch on October 25: Total Mayhem is the most chaotic mode in Overwatch 2, allowing players to use abilities more often and making Zarya seemingly unstoppable.

Changes will eventually be made to Overwatch 2's heroes, but it appears that they will be held off until Season 2. Whatever changes will be made will keep in mind the design goal of "giving each season a more distinctive identity while ensuring balance and fairness throughout the game." Given that many of the effects have been reduced to just doing damage, that makes it a bit more difficult, doesn't it?

In a game with so many characters, it is very impressive that there is only a 10% disparity in win rates. It helps that some of these characters were finely tuned in the previous game, but it could have been significantly worse with the new heroes and some major reworking. As new players get the hang of the game and better understand the abilities of the heroes, there may be a little more movement on which heroes are clearly overpowered or underpowered. It will take time and an evolving meta for those details to become clear.
