The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is known as one of the best single player games of all time, but the next Witcher could be one of the best multiplayer games. CD Projekt Red has made several announcements today, one of which was unexpected The Witcher" could be one of the best multiplayer games of all time. What that means is still a bit of a mystery, but it definitely has something to do with The Witcher.

An image tweeted by CD Projekt Red showed both Ciri and Geralt with the caption, "We will introduce multiplayer in most new games to enrich the single-player experience." So it looks like the next "The Witcher" will have a multiplayer component, but it is not yet clear how deep it will be.

I now have a couple of hypotheses: first, there could be a multiplayer component to the Gwent and mini-games within "The Witcher 4". It is not impossible that the NPCs you play against are actually just people, and that the two could be smoothly integrated without destroying the immersive experience.

More interesting, however, might be a cooperative play element that allows you to participate in missions with other Witchers. Assaults on monster nests or large missions could be aided by other players, but it would be a far more complex experience. Or it could be a completely different game, with a different story and scope than an RPG. Who knows, but any of these would be a great addition to this world.

What this tweet implies is that not only "The Witcher" but cyberpunk will have a multiplayer component in the future. At least for me, that is easier to imagine. Cyberpunk 2077 has enough weapons to make a PvP shooter, and before it was cancelled due to launch woes, a multiplayer mode was in development.
