Sony Says PlayStation Exclusive Games Will Be Available on PC "At Least a Year from Now," Unless They're Live Service Games

Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, divulged that in the future, first-party PlayStation games will wait "at least a year" before being released on PC (open in new tab). There is one exception to this rule, however: PlayStation live-service games may be released "on the same day" as the console versions. Considering the fact that the company is planning 10 live-service games (opens in new tab), this is a rather large commitment to the PC.

In an interview with YouTuber Julien Chièze, Hulst said that for live service games, "because we want to have a really strong community, strong engagement right when we go live," Sony may in the future choose to release them on multiple platforms simultaneously. He said that they may choose to release the game on multiple platforms at the same time. This means that "God of War: Ragnarok" will not be available for at least a year, but PC-based "Destiny" fans can rest assured that Sony's acquisition of Bungie will not have a very serious impact.

Sony, of course, has undergone significant changes in its relationship with the PC over the past few years. Last July, the company acquired PC port house Nixxes (opens in new tab): the former fortress that housed PlayStation exclusive games like "Horizon: Zero Dawn," "Marvel's Spider-Man," and "God Of War" has fallen. Sony now expects $300 million (open in new tab) in revenue from PC games this fiscal year.

That relationship is not going anywhere soon. This morning, Hulst spoke in frustratingly vague terms about future investments to "bolster [Sony's] PC footprint [opens in new tab]."

Dataminers has also learned from the Marvel's Spider-Man files that the PlayStation PC launcher ( open in new tab), and found references to the possibility of a PC launcher, suggesting that the company plans to bet on a permanent settlement on PC shores.

As for upcoming PlayStation releases on PC, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will be available on Steam (opens in new tab) on October 19. I've also seen a lot of hints and leaks that "Returnal" will be available on desktop (opens in new tab), so Sony should really announce it at this point; as for "The Last Of Us Part 1," wait a year; it will be available on Steam (opens in new tab) on October 19. And don't mention Bloodborne, you're only torturing yourself at this point.
