It's a big day for CD Projekt, which has announced a full sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 (opens in new tab) and a completely new installment of the Witcher trilogy (opens in new tab). This is because a brand new project called "Hadar" is also in the works.

"'Hadar' is the codename for the third and completely different IP to be created from scratch within CDPR," CD Projekt Red tweeted." The project is in the early stages of the creative process, we have not developed the game yet and are only working on the foundation of this new setting."

CD Projekt said that conceptual work on Hadar began in 2021 and that at the moment they are working on "the foundation of the world - laying the setting for a third separate product in the future."

Despite being founded almost 30 years ago, CD Projekt has only developed games based on two properties, both licensed: the fantasy short story series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher, a fantasy short story series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, and Cyberpunk, a tabletop RPG by Mike Pondsmith. Both were huge successes and helped make CD Projekt one of the world's largest game makers, but creating a completely original setting for a new game is a major departure from CD Projekt's established expertise. Regardless of what the final product will be, it will be a truly new work for the studio.

By the way, "Hada" (open in new tab) is the official name of Beta Centauri, a triple star system in the constellation Centaurus, but CD Projekt's next project will not necessarily be a sci-fi experience. Other projects the studio announced today, including a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and a new Witcher game, are also named after stars: the constellations Orion, Polaris, Canis Major, and Sirius.
