Overwatch 2 queues still a problem 24 hours later

Update 2: Blizzard will take down the Overwatch 2 servers for one hour starting at 3 p.m. PDT "to address some bugs related to account merges, logins, and first-time user experience" (opens in new tab). The servers will also be down again for 3 hours starting at 6 p.m. PDT for a server update to reduce queue times.

Update: Blizzard has published a detailed post (opens in new tab) on how they are working on server queue times and recovering players' lost cosmetic items.

The original post It has been a full 24 hours since the launch of Overwatch 2 (opens in new tab), and it has been plagued by login queues, errors, disconnections, and account issues.

As of Wednesday afternoon, if you try to log into Overwatch 2 right now, you will probably face thousands of login queues. Or you might be kicked out of the queue altogether due to an error. And when you do log in, you may find that you are short on cosmetic items, currency, and heroes.

Blizzard has not provided an update since late last night, when game director Aaron Keller tweeted (open in new tab) that "we are making steady progress on server issues and stability" after an unstable launch and two DDoS attacks. The developer said it will update the "Known Issues" page (opens in new tab) as soon as the issue is resolved. Currently, the list includes "unexpected server errors" due to PC and console account integration, loss of cosmetics and currency, and server disconnections.

Some players have reported that swapping to the Asian region (via the globe icon in the Battle.net launcher) allows them to get in faster than entering the queue on the North American server, but others say it didn't make much difference. I successfully logged in this way yesterday and was able to reconnect even after being disconnected several times during a match.

Once in the game and playing a match, nothing critical happened, but apparently I am lucky. Players have reported a large number of problems with various Overwatch 2 features, all of which may be rooted in server troubles. Heroes' hair doesn't load and goes bald (open in new tab), emotes cause T-pause (open in new tab), free cosmetic items somehow cost currency (open in new tab), accounts are reverted to new ones even though no heroes are unlocked (open in new tab open in a new tab), etc.

I have asked Blizzard for an update on when any of these issues will be fixed. You can keep an eye on both the Overwatch (opens in new tab) Twitter account and Blizzard's customer support (opens in new tab) for further updates.

Those who want to play Overwatch 2 will have to keep rolling the dice at the login screen and pray they can log in. And since the sequel replaced the original game as soon as it launched, you can't go back and play it while you wait for everything to settle down.
